Read Dr Vicki Ormerod’s detailed course review of our legendary Expedition Medicine winter course in Chamonix published on The Adventure Medic website. Exerpt: The course instructors were really inspirational and a whole lot of fun, being approachable on the course and socialising in the evenings. On par with the course content, I think a true highlight for me has to be meeting so many other like minded medics to ski and socialise with.

BMJ review of Expedition Medicine in Chamonix (winter) by Wendy Russel
Excerpt: Was it worth it? Without doubt this type of course is a must for anyone who is in the business of expedition medicine or who would like to learn more before committing to a full blown expedition. The faculty exhibited a very warm welcome and all lecturers shared their expertise with great enthusiasm. The content of the course was extremely comprehensive for all territories and was not just restricted to high altitude environments. I felt that the level was pitched in a well balanced way so as to uphold the interest of the entire group, which was made up of many people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
BMJ review of Expedition Medicine & Field Skills (Chamonix summer) by Alice Mavrogordato
Excerpt: Was it worth it? Definitely. This was one of the best courses I have been on. The faculty had huge personal experience and a mix of medical and non-medical expertise. They were very enthusiastic to ensure that people on the course would acquire the skills to practise safe expedition medicine. I would strongly suggest you go on a course like this if you are considering accompanying a group in a remote area. During my two months as an expedition medic in remote parts of Ethiopia and trekking in China I used much of the knowledge and many of the tips and skills learnt on this course.
BMJ review of the Morocco Mountain Medicine Expedition by Alison Evans
Excerpt: I had an amazing week away, learning about expedition medicine and developing skills. Depending on how much experience you have before the trip you may need a little more before leading a trek yourself. I am planning a trip abroad after completing my foundation year 2 and I would never have felt confident or competent enough to do that without going on this course.
Student BMJ review of Expedition Medic by Matthew Everson
Excerpt: While dodging the Herefordshire rain, outdoor practical sessions allowed everyone hands-on experience… We improvised a stretcher to carry a climber with appendicitis using just a rope, and learnt how to construct a makeshift traction device for a person with a fractured femur. We also got to grips with the basics of radio communication and the management of snake bites… I would highly recommend it to any medical student or doctor who has a keen interest in the wilderness and remote activities. Anyone considering working in emergency medicine would benefit as well. I learnt many transferable skills that I hope in the future I can apply to medical situations, whether in or out of hospital, and particularly on my elective.
